On July 19 & 20, space lovers can fill their hearts and heads with planets, meteors, space weather and astronautics at this year's edition of Astropolis Space Village, in Ostend, Flanders. Free entrance !
Among astronomical and space-related associations, you'll find some of our scientists and engineers with a selection of activities :
Observing meteors with radio wavesEvery day, more than 100 tonnes of both small particles and larger objects fall into Earth's atmosphere. These are called meteoroids, and the shooting star phenomenon we see when they burn up is called a meteor. We can observe them well at night, but not by day, unless we use radio waves to detect them. This is what we do with the BRAMS network. Come join us to find out how it all works, and how you can contribute to the scientific research through the Radio Meteor Zoo citizen science project ! |
Virtual Reality CornerWant to escape reality for a while? This is possible in our VR corner! We offer various summer travel destinations, from close to Earth to the furthest corners of our solar system. Explore the Earth's atmosphere with your snooping eyes, relive the historic landing of the moon, take the ExoMars space probe to discover the planet Mars, or do you prefer comet Churymov-Gerasimenko? Which exotic destination will you choose? |
A Touch of Space Weather
With "A Touch of Space Weather", the idea is literally to explore the science of space weather by touch ! The project is directed towards blind and visually impaired people, but anyone is welcome to join us and learn all about the fascinating topic of solar physics and the Earth magnetic field! In the course of the two-day event, no fewer than 4 (craft) workshops will also be organised, during which we invite young people aged 10 and over to contribute to the creation of material for their blind and visually impaired peers. The workshop is free and lasts one hour. We work on a different theme each time, so if you want, you can take part in several workshops. Registration is required through the following links ! - Tuesday 2pm-3pm: Workshop "The sun as an active star". The material that you make with us during these workshops will be given to schools with blind and visually impaired students next school year. In this way, you too can contribute, while learning, to making science accessible to everyone! |
